The Awakened Night
Within the night the stars arise,
The dew glistens and the wind sighs,
As shadows dance across the skies
Like the blackest of butterflies.
And beneath the moon’s silken strands,
Grace and beauty lie in my hands.
Slipping through like the endless sands,
Lost forever to life’s demands.
But I just watch them drift away,
Lost within the dreams they portray,
As throughout the night their wings sway,
Among the breeze in their array.
Solace lies at my finger tips
Where within this life’s brief eclipse.
Beauty and grace befall my lips,
And my heart slowly comes to grips.
As the barren limbs of my soul
Bloom once more within life’s extol.
A midnight rose that dares console,
The things that lie beyond control.
Faint echoes of the past take flight;
Dark butterflies within the night.
They dance among the silken light
of the moon and stars, ever bright.
And the dew glistens, the wind sighs,
As the first rays of dawn arise,
And stars fade from the morning skies;
As do the night’s dark butterflies.
Their black wings crimson in the sun,
As the memories are un-spun,
And the dreams I held come undone,
as they slowly fade one by one.
